about the artist
When life gave me lemons (chronic illness),
I made art.
I have always appreciated art history and completed various drawings and paintings throughout my childhood, but I never knew I had an actual talent for creating art until I was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome at 19 years old, and then Ankylosing Spondylitis and optic neuritis a few years later. Because of the weight of these diagnoses and how they limit my ability to do typical twenty-something activities, one especially difficult day inspired me to attempt a portrait of my cat, Duchess, with some cheap acrylic paints. Since moving to a new apartment last fall, I have begun experimenting with oil paints and have completed over 40 works since January.
I am fascinated by impressionism, specifically Monet and Berthe Morisot, but I tend to gravitate towards realism in practice. Spending time in nature helps me to focus on finding joy in ordinary moments despite my diagnoses, and I believe my art reflects that sentiment.
I am a cat mom to my seven year old Duchess, and two year old Honey. I have been married to my wonderful husband (who is an abundantly talented musician) for seven years. I credit my sweet little family for most of my inspiration and in-studio support.
why an art club?
-
accessibility
a mail club is a fantastic way to receive new prints and activities every month without even thinking about it- perfect for those of us with limited time & energy but an endless desire for new experiences
-
affordability
as a chronically ill and disabled girlie, I am passionate about making fine art more affordable for those with shared/tight spaces and limited budgets
-
inspiration
to sustain my club, I have to continuously show up online and engage with my community, and I have received so many comments about how my story has inspired others who are chronically ill or otherwise disabled and feel inspired to chase their own dreams after seeing my content- these messages are my favorite!
